Horror for Children

“Horror” …for Children?!!

Why are we dedicated to scaring kids?

Kids love stories about things that go bump in the night as much as adults, but isn’t there enough scary stuff in a child’s life? Why subject them to things that will keep them awake at midnight with nightmares?

For just that reason: there is plenty to be scared of in everyday life, and learning to cope with fear as a child, hopefully from within the safety of a storybook, is what sets the foundation for how we cope with fear as adults.

The key is to find a story that will stretch the limits of comfort, but not go so far that it becomes traumatic. That’s why this web site is here, to help parents and librarians explore what is out there and make an informed decision as to what is right for their child or audience.
