Produced by M&J Audio Theater, (Mark Sawyer and Jay Reel,) “The Highway of Death” was their first story in 1989. National Public Radio aired the first four episodes on NPR Playhouse in 1990. The following year NPR ordered 9 more installments of Tales From the Morgue to be broadcast as a complete 13 show series in 1992. There were a total of 19 shows produced but 6 were rejected by NPR. They are all available at this time.

Bitter Pill , The  

A pacifist is drafted and makes repeated sacrifices for his unit, though they don’t appreciate it. In the end he dies to get them beer. A bitter pill.

 

Bogus Beavers From Barnak, The  

Alien explorers who resemble beavers land in Biluxi. When they are accidentally mistreated, some of them decide to seek conquest rather than camaraderie!

 

Elmer and the Book of Absolute Truth  

Hearing of Elmer’s exploits with mole rats, invalid Mr. Williamsburg offers him a quarter million dollars to retrieve The Book– but it’s in the Cave of 1000 Terrors, past the Canyon of Death where Asha waits among the cannibal Pygmies, piranhas, and rabid monkeys!

 

Elmer vs. The Mutant Mole Rats  

Elmer Korn’s neighborhood is besieged by giant burrowing rats; failed genetic experiments buried nearby. He falls through a hole infested with them, but burns them out… then a giant one emerges from the earth!

 

Excursions in Fear  

Two short stories reminiscent of EC comics: A tax delinquent would rather kill than give up his land; A man who hates cars becomes their victim!

Professor Frankenheiffer and his hunchback asistant, Scum use a particle accelerator to make a TV image come to life for a monstrous revenge. Can Hakimoto save the world from his own stolen technology?
